how to test headlight motor?

70 charger headlight motor,out of car. Is the spade ground and plug ,male and female up and down. Is that how I would test it? Thanks for any help.

The spade is the ground. The 2 wire plug is open and close. I have tested them out of the car but later learned that it is not advised....the internal stops can get damaged.
I have a history of doing things in a manner that seems right but later turns out to be wrong. Oddly, my stuff rarely breaks. Torsion bars for example: For years, I just slipped them in with no regard to the proper orientation. THEN I read in Mopar Action that they are directional. Huh? I've never broken one.

With no load on the motor if is nice and free it can run to fast and mess up the internal limit contacts. If you quickly apply and remove power you can see if it will operate.
 
I guess for the bench test using a flat screwdriver or even an allen key into the motor square hole could be used to hold the spin speed and torque with the hand to keep safe the internal gears and points… just an idea
