On an episode last night of Garage Squad, they were doing a Plum Crazy 70 Cuda convertible and updated the front factory drums to disc, but never changed out the booster? I thought it required a different booster for a disc conversion?
I do like the squad crew and the show, just curious

Use a different Master Cylinder,
(sometimes smaller diameter valve, longer stroke, to flow more fluid at pressure)
with a bigger front reservoir for more fluid capacity & volume
& no hold off/residual valve, like drums
ned to change the combo distribution valve too
or remove it & use/add a proportioning valve
the rear brakes don't need the volume the front brakes do
70% of braking is in the front

I don't think the booster makes a difference
it just helps to put more pressure/usually vacuum
assist to the MC, via the brake pedal
maybe the rod between the pedal & booster may need to be changed

if that's not over simplifying it

The only reason discs require a larger reservoir is because owners don't check fluid often enough. No fluid flow is involved when applying the brakes, only an increase in pressure to the pistons that push the friction elements. That being said, the larger bore of the calipers will take much more fluid as the friction elements wear compared to drum wheel cylinders. So you can get by with a drum master cylinder if you remove the check valve from the front section.

Require? No it will work. But Chrysler though it needed a different power booster so they were different from drum to disc on every 60’s mopar I can think of.

All these replies have made it clear, I just assumed the the disc brakes needed greater assistance from the larger boosters that I have seen either with a factory disc set up, or an drum to disc conversion
Thanks guys

Discs do need more pressure to operate as they are not self energizing like drum brake shoes.

I found it interesting that the car was blue under the hood, but red under the interior.

...at least they painted it FC7 under the hood!
