I Don’t Need No Instruction Manual!

I haven't built a plane model in years I have a ton of car models in the basement .
My neighbor across the street builds military models frequently and does them right .
He has an arena set up with paint booth , build area and takes his time sometimes months to finish I should get a few pictures and post them .

When I was a kid in the 1970s, I built many models with the model glue that was supposed to be bad for you, and also got you high on the fumes. That may explain the design changes :)

Used to love building models - just so busy doing things but here we are on our iPads , computers
and such .
I been thinking lately of digging them up and doing one ..

I likes me a B 17.

Art in design.

yep, not as good as testors, but more fun to smell until it made you sick

The mayor of Moraine OH used to do aerobatics in a B17 at the Dayton Air Show, which as everything the US was taking to Paris for that year.

Built model cars from 1964-1975. That explains a lot about my lack of brain cells.....

I built many WWll planes in school.A good survived two moves over the years. My Uncle and I were supposed to go up in Nine O Nine in 2015.He passed unexpectedly before it could happen. He had given me a 1/48 scale B-17 model that he had never gotten around too. I had built three of these back in school, and I built it after he passed as a tribute to him. Didn't need to look at the directions too much.
In 2016 my wife bought me a ticket for a ride in Nine O Nine for our anniversaryb-17-nine-o-nine.jpg b.JPG c.JPG PTDC0001.JPG PTDC0002.JPG , but it rained all weekend.

Well when you do get up in the sky in one your imagination takes over . You appreciate how brave the soldiers were who flew the missions in ww2

You also appreciate how primitive the planes were...

I remember that smell!!!! I think it was Testors model glue. I built a bunch of airplanes and cars, even had the airplanes hanging from my ceiling as a kid. It looked like a horror movie with all the cobwebs lol.

Went to a model show to look around, had 1954 hook and ladder fire truck. While I was there saw a guy selling model cars, got his card. Bought about a dozen models from a hobby shop and had a kits I never assembled . Called him up he came to my house asked what I whated for them. Figured I'd throw a high price at him, $400. Answer ok. I was happy with the price, joked I should've asked more. If your kit are unassembled $$$.

After retiring from his power plant job, my dad managed our local small municipal airport. His first love was anything aircraft. We built many model planes from warbirds to jet fighters and hung them in the terminal/office area. He was a flight engineer in WWII and served in the south Pacific theatre. B-17's and Corsairs are my favorite planes.

I think I have about 8 or so . One is a challenger with a turtle wax packet inside to wax it even .
I had a really old Superbird model I gave a few years back to a friend to build its on his gas fireplace mantel now .

I don’t know if anyone under 40 even knows what a ‘plastic model’ even is, lol. My oldest built all the time, got he & I a ride on the Goodyear blimp years ago and he loved it. Lost him about 30yrs ago at an air show and when he showed up later on he had gone up on a B-24(25) with his friend for a flight over Lake Erie .

Built this about a year ago after buying my X. Wish I had more patience. I see all the things I should have done better. Maybe next time.
