Everytime I work on my car while it running I end up stinking of hydrocarbons, it's on my clothes, in my hair, and it's just stinky! Is this a good indication that my idle is pig rich? It happens when I drive some too but only when the window are down and not as much with the windows rolled up. What is the dealy-o!?

LOL

yes, it sounds like you are pig rich. have you done any tuning to your carb?

Mmmm well I have been today.on my Edelbrick 750 I replaced the 7074 metering rods with the stock 7475 ones and tuned the carb with the idle adjust screw to reach max vac but my engine shakes like a bastard at like 750 and the carb starts like clicking or something so my idle is up around 950-1000 in park and 850-900 in gear. And stinks.

I've filled up 5 gallon jugs at Norwood airport before & I would imagine that other municipal airports would be willing to do the same.
So if say my typical fill up is around 12 gallons how much of this "jet fuel" should I add? And yes I know it's for piston operated craft :)

do you have a timing light? she may need s'more timing.

I do and I have been trying to get it all dialed in! I used a piston stop to find TDC yesterday marked my balancer and installed a tape on the damper, I have an MSD so I use the ol sears craftsman chrome inductive light and today I looked at my little timing set up for the first time and it said I'm like 50* initial and like 71* total which is not possible at all! I have an MSD distributor with the blue bushing for 21* mechanical and the light silver and blue spring to bring it all in by 2500per. I was flabbergasted by the timing thing and just don't understand why it's so off. Btw the car is running the absolute best it has in a long time! New coil, plugs and wires all MSD and sounds great no stammer or hesitation just a little ping sometimes but that is it

Jet fuel and avgas are not the same. Never put jet fuel in your tank.
What kind of vacuum readings you getting? Readings will vary with engine build nothing standard with nonstock builds.

Yes I know I was joking. I know avgas is for piston airframes. I have 12in of vac. Running rpm edelbrock cylinder heads, airgap intake and rpm cam

We use a Wideband Air Fuel Ratio gauge to help tune the carb, they work great, but they are a little pricey, but well worth it

You did use half the stop distances for 0 on the tape?

Yeah I know I have been wanting to add one of those to my diagnostics dept in the garage. And haven't for exactly that reason. I have seen some old school jobs on eBay but dunno if that's reliable and if I can even use them while driving

yes, you can watch your AFR while driving down the road. I have had it on three cars we have owned. We just scew in a plug in the bung (where the sensor is) in the exhaust and move it to the new car. I have lent it to a few of my friends over the years and they have used it to tune their carbs. They just had to install a bung in the drivers side exhaust for the sensor.

Yeah I went up to just before TDC with the stop and used the hole on the metal as the mark spot, then around the other direction until I hit again and the split the difference, made the mark in between and used that as zero on the tape. I just don't get it

The little metal bit is what I fabricated for viewing on the opposite side of my timing chain cover because my real markings are hidden behind my water pump and I figured if I marked for TDC on the other side using the hole on the piece it would all jive as long as I was marking it at TDC. Am I incorrect?

Yeah I know you can for new ones, I'm taking about the old old like vintage ones on EBay I don't think you can . And I want one for each side of the motor as I have dual exhaust with no crossover. And even if I knew I was running rich wtf can I do to fix it lol I'm trying everything! Timing, carb metering rods and tuning it I just dunno
