Ignition Coil Wired Pos. to Neg.

Accidently wired the positive from a bypassed ballast resistor to the negative on the ignition coil in installing a White Ready-To-Run electronic dizzy and attempted to start engine several times. Could/Did I do any damage to the coil. I have re-wired and am still getting 12v to the terminal. THX.

Not likely to cause much or any damage it should work and run no problem. I would go forward and if or when the coil finally fails replace it..

Pull a plug wire and hold it near a good engine ground. Crank the motor over with a remote starter switch. Do you see a good, strong blue spark? If so, the coil is OK.

Never do the above spark test on a computer operated or ecu equiped vehicle if you value the ignition system and the computer always use an inline spark tester and avoid fried electronics.

Excuse me. Good catch. What I should have said was to pull a sparkplug and with the wire still connected, hold the plug against the block and remote spin the motor. Look for same spark quality.
