I've been looking hard for a 727 trans for the 1971 Charger with a 383, Auto floor shift. I know the made 727 for a lot of years. Is the some that work and some that don't?

If you're re-using an original converter, a '67-'77 big block 24 spline unit should work for your setup.

I have two broken 727s
Why not repair them? You will need to use a tail shaft housing with the 2 bosses for the factory bell crank for the floor shifter linkage. Easy swap if the doner doesn't have them. A lock up with the smooth portion of the input shaft is not a bolt in. Neither is a 66 with 18 spline input shaft. 67-78 non lock up will bolt in with the exception of the neutral safety switch. 62-65 cable shift will not work. Short tail shaft or 4wd truck will not bolt in w/o parts swapping. What doesn't work on the units you have?

For the slap stick, the tail shaft needs the ears with the two holes near the speedometer drive. Front part of case for big block bellhousing.
A '71 and up would have the front drum with the wide bushing, and the matching pump stator support and input shaft. Valve body with the plastic on the shifter comb for the 3-prong NSS/reverse light switch, and part throttle kickdown valve assembly on the valve body.

Any factory floor shift needs the two bosses in the tail shaft housing. Makes no difference if it's a slap stick.
