Working on a 63 for the wife.

Learned how to drive on a '63 Dart GT in 1965. I always believed this was the 1st "Pony car". they came out in fall of 62. I feel Iacoca saw this and pushed hard for the Mustang which came out in mid 64. First car I ever bought was 64 dart vert that had same color scheme as the shown on Hagerty article. Look at the profile of these early Darts and tell me that mustangs look totally different. I think Mopar should get credit for the 1st pony car design.

One of the few articles that got it right on the 67,,s
Dodge seized that opportunity late in the 1967 model year with a Dart GT Sport (GTS) model. Other than badges on the fender, little distinguishes the 1967 Dart GTS from a normal Dart GT, but under the hood lurks a 383-cu-in V-8. Had this at one time.

Not many people know the Bacaruda came out before the Mustang.
yep by a few/couple months (4 maybe ?)
April 1st 1964 was the Barracuda's debut

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Barracuda

it didn't sell like the 64 & 1/2 Mustang did
126,538 in less time
didn't Mustang debut at the worlds fair org., a convertible IIRC ?
(some 600,000 total the 1st year/model 64 & 1/2 in 65 year model offerings)

64 Barracuda's some 23,443 in the same timeframe of 1964
100,000 less in sales #'s & were out months before the Rustangs

too bad the gen 2 Barracuda 67-69 body style
didn't come out in pre-65, instead of the gussied up 64 Valiant
they may have had a completely different outcome
in the Pony Wars race

the early Barracuda's weren't very popular
or very attractive to many buyers
(a Valiant with a different rear 'fastback' window & some badges)
especially not compared to the Mustang's popularity

I personally don't mind the Gen 1 or 2 Mustang Sportroofs/Fastbacks
or Convertibles even
(Carol Shelby called them; "a secretaries car, what am I supposed to do with that" ?)
I absolutely hate the coupes/notchbacks
or any 4cyl or 6cyl Rustangs

I do like the 67-69 Barracuda's way better
