Interior door handles question

Can someone let me know if there is supposed to be some sort of bumper or stop of some description on the interior door handle to keep the tip of the handle from contacting the armrest backing trim piece on my '69 coronet 500.

This is what I have.

This is what I'd like.

There was ant an adjustment there. If it drives you crazy, shorten the rod snide the door 1/4”

Yes there is a rubber bumper on the "lever" arm that it's screwed on to.
