James Moylan will not be down for breakfast

A friend of mine worked on the line at the Willow Run transmission plant. He was a mountain of a man and had no problem lifting a transmission, but he invented a trans lift that Ford started using for all employees. He got a free car outta that!
My 'last' job was working as a machinist in a refinery. We had a 'Coin Your Idea' program but seems like many ideas didn't get any 'coin' for the ideas that were turned in including one of mine. The program was mostly about safety and mine was for having mirrors on fork lifts....especially in the shop and I mentioned using convex mirrors for more line of sight in tight areas. It got rejected and the next thing I know a few months later, all the fork lifts had those mirrors along with backup beepers which were way too loud. Heard of others turning in 'ideas' and heard nothing and then their ideas showed up...without any 'coin'. The program died when employees quit turning anything in and many just said 'F' them.

We had a similar program at my last job (county government) but was specifically for cost savings.

You were supposed to get a percentage of what you saved as a bonus and incentive to others.

A month before the program started, I saved the county over $200,000 by recommending a software maintenance contract not be renewed for another three years, because we owned the software and had become very proficient.

As soon as the program was announced, I inquired about my idea being included.

Wanna guess what the answer was?
