Sign me up for a ride in that bad boy!
Hell with riding in it. I want to drive it like I stole it and then ski behind it. Way cool boat.
Maybe it's not the boat? But the operator
The boat is a 1968 17'6" Rayson-craft built by the late Rudy Ramos. I've stripped the hull down to nothing and built new stringers, spent a lot of time getting several old paint jobs off. The motor ran "ok". Basic 9:1 383 with 452 heads and a Comp Nostalgia cam. I used the block and the main caps...... Got a 440 source stroker kit and heads with an XE280S cam. Found the Wieand tunnel ram on EBay.With a 25% overdrive and a 12x11 2 blade wheel it turns 6800 which is 75mph. I know it will pull the same rpm with more overdrive, but this hull is not safe at those speeds. The hull is in body shop jail getting paint. The transom is an exotic wood veneer I vacuum bagged on. And then I liked the Mopar motor so much, I went and got my RR and I'm building a better motor heheheheHell with riding in it. I want to drive it like I stole it and then ski behind it. Way cool boat.
Back in the 80's a friend had a 24' ponyhaul V-drive with a blown 392 Hemi. Scary fast.
BTW, I named the boat "Doc Holiday". It's a nickname I picked up while deployed with the Marine Corps.Maybe it's not the boat? But the operator

As they say, there's only two kinds of boat racers, those that have been wet and those that are gonna be. I've spent some years around boat racing also, I love it.I like Drag Boats
I lived next to the owners & helped out with their
Record Holder BFFB & Nostalgia Dragster

Driver/more like a pilot, renowned Al Bush RIP
we were talking about his wild rides, in Blown Fuel Flatbottoms
I once asked Al how many boats he had sank, blown up etc.
he still holds the records as far as I know still today
they stopped racing BFFB, too dangerous, too many deaths & wrecks
(like the fuel altereds of drag boats)
he said;
"All of them" with a snicker

Sissys.
Sissys.
1st time I went 100+ MPH was on the water in my uncle's flat bottom v-drive with a 4 Webers powered 426 HEMI.
That's when I caught the need for speed. I was about 8-9 years old and he had the fastest boat on the lake.
I need to find some pictures of that boat.
