I was test-driving a new Challenger-Hellcat-Redeye-Widebody through the Rocky Mountains. In a fairly flat river valley, I saw a herd of cattle running hard. I've worked cattle enough to know they only run when a feed truck pulls up. So I'm looking for the rancher and his truck but I saw something else.
The whole herd was chasing a big Black Bear out of the pasture. The bear must have been looking for an easy calf to grab but the cattle were having none of it. The bear was about 40 yards in front of the herd, running clumsily as bears do, with his big ears flapping up and down,
After our turnaround at the Continental Divide, I saw the bear again but on the other side of the highway. He was on the shoulder about to cross the highway in front of me. I hit the brakes hard and he decided to turn back. I got a good look at him from about 6 feet away. I was very happy to not destroy a new Redeye with 5,000 miles on it.
Although they are called Black Bears many and brownish-blonde. My bear resembled this picture.
