That’s because they are ‘71 “what if” creations not the real McCoy.
 
For those of you flatlanders the signs say runaway truck ramp. They are on steep grades and are soft deep gravel to stop trucks that overheated and lost their brakes. They are usually right in line with the highway so it's a straight shot up the path.

So a truck that lost its brakes would be going pretty fast and that officer may have no time to get the vehicle out of the way.

I've wondered about those, if a truck has no brakes left and goes up that hill, what stops it from rolling back down again?
