Let's post some fun stuff here

ATTENTION! This just in:

From now on, 'France' will be spelled 'Frants', to more accurately rhyme with 'pants'.

Thank you. You may resume your crossword puzzle.

Fun stuff? How about a fun modification?

My car trailer has several D rings to attach to.

I have the standard ratchet straps like so:

The nylon strap and hook can be a problem sometimes.
If I’m trying to tie down a long car, the straps are close to the D rings. This can sometimes result in the straps filling up the reel before the straps are tight…leaving the straps loose. What I needed was to move the ratchet closer to the D rings to leave more room for the straps to roll in.
A FABO member I’ve known for years told me about ratchets with a hook directly attached to them so using some stuff I had laying around…

I took a pipe formerly used in a compact floor Jack, cut it down and welded a hook to it.

Now I gained about 8 inches more room for the straps.

This also puts the ratchets away from the underside of the car for easier access.

Score !
Yeah, I could have bought new ones but come on…. What car guy buys stuff when he can make it at home?

Um...

I always pull the strap through the reel until it has tension on it, and THEN start to ratchet. Then take the tail, wrap it around to the handle side, and loop-knot it so it holds the handle down, so it doesn't accidentally release while in motion.

Thanks.
I do that sometimes as well but probably not as often as I should.
This shorter ratchet setup still has the benefit of being closer to the D rings and further from the underside of the car by a little bit. That makes the operation of the ratchet mechanism a little easier.

This video isn't "fun stuff" for the guy on the drone but it was fun watching it....
