Let's post some fun stuff here

I have one of those grinders in my office. It had been kicking around my Mom's house and my brother brought it in because he knows I am sentimental about such things. Hasn't been used since the advent of the kitchenaid grinder attachment. I remember my Gramps putting it to good use every time we had a ham. I guess ham hash (cooked in bacon fat) was one of his favorites too because that plate of ground pork was ALWAYS in the kitchen the next day ready for the fryer!
My Dad took over that duty when Grandpa passed then alas, we lost him too. I had moved out by then.
Now when I see it I think of both men, the sacrifices they made for their family and how much I love and miss them (not to mention a hankerin' for ham hash!).
I keep saying I'm going to fire it up some day to see if it still works but that kitchenaid is just too easy. Can't get the wife on board with the bacon fat these days either.

My mother would grind ham then grinder pickles. She'd remove excess pickle juice and mix ham, pickle with mayo for sandwiches. When I had a knee replaced was in a nursing home for 10 days of rehab. They served them at lunch and no problem about seconds. The nurse who came in at 11pm to remove my knee bending machine heard my stomach growl. She said we have sandwiches in the kitchen you want ham+cheese? You happen to have ham+pickle? She brought two, whata girl.

That sounds delicious!
I am guilty of eating alot of the ground ham before frying. Need to try your recipe.
