It’s interesting to see everyone’s flag themed art, cars, stripes, garage wall hangers, and old glory herself.

I have a question about the current trend of ‘supporter’ and patriotic themed flags I see online and locally. There are a lot of grayed out American flags with stripes, blue for police, red for fire fighters. There are political slogans, guns, and second amendment imagary superimposed on the flag. There are tough looking skulls printed over the American flag. I’m only scratching the surface with these ‘modified’ flags but I think everyone is familiar with what I’m describing.

Isn’t this a violation of the flag code? I have no doubt of the patriotism and love of country of the folks buying and displaying these flags but I’m a bit confused. What’s your take on these?

g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

American Legion Link to Flag Code

I have a flag pole in front of my house and while the night illumination of the flag is not as good as it should be, I try to follow the code when folding, storing, handling and displaying the flag.
