Ok Im looking into a set of lifters and a cam for my 383 as you all may have read in other threads... When I look at Summits site and a specific cam and lifter set it says lifters will not work in 67 back 383's Whats the difference between a 67 and a 68 383 lifter bore?

Direct quote from the page..

Single-bolt camshaft. The lifters in this kit will only work in 1968 and newer big block engines.

I believe it's more to do with lifter seat height than the bores. They required different length pushrods...there may be another difference that I'm not recalling as I'm only into my first cup of coffee but I think that was it.

The rod seat in the lifter was a smaller diameter as the rods were necked down at the bottom end. I built a 1959 413 in 1969/70 and found out at that time.

IIRC the early lifter/pushrod seat/ball radius was around 0.250", where-as newer lifter seats will accommodate 5/16" and 3/8" pushrods, but not 1/4".

Good info... Thanks. So as long as I use the push rods I have which are all 5/16 with modern lifters I will be ok?

The engine already had newer lifters and pushrods in it.. I suppose they did that back when it was rebuilt.

I have 6 lifters that are no good... So I assume all will fail soon.

all good answers
never use the old desigh
there are several reasons ma mopar changed
now use the largest strongest pushrods you can find
spintrons show why with long mopar lifters and heavy valves
for your cam get all this info together
here's a templet but there are others
