Looking to find my 340's original model

My 340 has an assembly number of GW340P33920517, so I know it's a Windsor engine for 1971, built on Nov. 10, 1970. Is there any way to know what model my 340 came out of? Are there other stampings which might have a VIN on it? Thanks.

There's a pad on the front of the engine, driver's side, right below the head. And numbers are cast into the side of the block as well. Also there is a pad on the rail above the oil pan. Should have the last numbers of a vin. As far as the last numbers of a vin helping is as close as you can get.

I’m in the same boat. Mine reads “FW340P31990498” beep beep is right though there is a small flat plane just above the oil pan on the
passenger side of the engine that will read the last 8 of the VIN from the original car. mine reads "0B321441" I've never been able to find out with certainty what kind of car that is but its a stepping stone haha

If your 8 digit vin shows it’s from the Hamtramck plant there’s a pretty solid registry online that allows you to search their records with the partial. It is all based on what’s been reported to the site though so they don’t have everything. I was able to find that my original car was either a duster or a barracuda based on the sequence Of the vin. (My engines full sequence has never been reported to them) Yours may have been in the past and you may find out more

And there's the obvious stuff, like 340's never came in Chrysler Newport. Maybe you could cross reference which cars were made at that plant in 1970 & narrow it down.

The hamtrack registry does that for you. I looked up the full 8 digits I had and got nothing and kept deleting a digit from the end until I got any results back. Got down to “0b321” and it showed what vins that had been reported 0B321295 was a duster and 0B321852 was a barracuda. I’m leaning to mine being a duster, but always hold out hope that it was a cuda. My engine has 1970 J heads which if original I believe the original engine would have to be a cuda but again who knows if the are original. the screeen shot is what it looks like when you look it up

....., but always hold out hope that it was a cuda. Why? It’s the same engine. There’s no discernible difference between a 340 in an A body and one in an E body.

My engine has 1970 J heads which if original I believe the original engine would have to be a cuda but again who knows if the are original. Again, why? When an engine is built, there is no way to know what make or model it will go in to. the screeen shot is what it looks like when you look it up

Ok, the last eight are... 1B267250. So, it was a Hamtramck car - and for 1971 that means either a Barracuda, Challenger, Demon, Duster or Valiant. However the Registry is for 1970 models years only, so I guess that's as far as I can go for now.

Yours does have a colder trail. From what I looked up the closest I got was 1b266462, which was a duster but almost 1000 cars were made between that one and yours

Looking again it has 1b269513 which was also a duster. Since yours falls between those it’s a very strong case that your engine came from a duster

No clue. Since dodge lost all the 67 and up records were forced to rely on forums and registrys

Yeah it’s behnd the casting number and before the 340 on the drivers side of the block.after learning this I double checked mine and it’s not a TA block
