Loose Steering

Get yourself a Borgeson box.
How about the firm firm rebuilds, are they any good? I see they have 3 different stages, but Im wondering if they are as good as the
Hopefully by next week, I'll be able to give my feedback on the Lares box and pump I bought for my 67 wagon. Doing a plethora of upgrades from front to rear. Rear is done now as of yesterday. Later today I'll get cracking on the front. Bushings, joints, rods, arms, t-bars, k-frame, sway bar, brakes[ larger], box and pump. The Lares box and pump are new, not reman. Little bit faster ratio than the stocker and not as spendy as Borgeson.
Please let me know. My steering box also has a ton of play and is leaking as well. I was thinking about a firm feel box.

Firm Feel and Steer and Gear do a decent job. The kicker is the quality of the core being used. Internal parts for the boxes were available from Mopar back in the day when new, but they never got used. Mopar only wanted the tech's to replace the entire box for warranty coverage. Therefore, the individual parts went to the scrap pile. The boxes they're working with now are the junkers they stayed away from years ago. They try to use the best components available with what they have on hand or can scavenge from other units. But you still have a box with worn components, although it's the best you can currently get for a stocker. Think of the used sheetmetal at current swap meets. The junk you walked away from, like 10 years or more ago, are the hot stuff available now. The Lares units are new, not reman. Their factory is in Minn. according to their website.

I had no idea how bad a Dodge steering box could be, until I drove my Tukvan. It was not safe. Doing some research, I discovered many others had the same problem.
Now I know there are new steering boxes available.
I would have bought new, if I had known.

Do you have a link for this Lares box and pump?

Do these steering boxes need pitman arms seals? I changed my pitman arms about a month ago and there was no leak. Now it’s leaking and I’m wondering if there’s a seal there on these older boxes.

They used to be good, until the son took over then the company went to ****. Besides, it’ll cost a lot to ship your core and ship it back to you.
I’m just not too crazy about cutting the column shaft.

Oh wow. I didn't know that. Is that a little shorter, is that how they solved that issue?

They are new. Both box and pump, that I bought from Rock. They did show a reman pump but I wanted new.

Did you put it in yet?
Exactly what you don't want to hear from a gal.
But to answer your question, not yet. Need to get the old one and pump out tomorrow before I drop out the K and put my 70 unit in. From there, reassembly time. Hope to get it to the alignment shop next week.

The scary part is when they ask you that and you have to tell them...."I'm finished". Sounds like it's gonna be a while. My steering box is leaking pretty bad and Im going to change the pitman arm seal soon. And if that's not the problem, I'm going to replace the box. To me its not worth going thru all that work to put in another OE box with all the play, Id rather use a newer box.

Yeah, thats not a job to do more than once. Lifetime warranties don't mean poo when you're doing the work or having to pay someone to do it and the warranty doesn't cover labor.

The Lares box is in, but I'm still working on the car, so no driving time feedback. Like the tech gal from Lares stated, if you have headers, fitment is on you[ me]. Had to massage #3 tube some. Getting it in from the bottom was a no go, did it from the top. Had to remove the pump, bought a new one so had to swap it out anyway, pulled #1 plug, jacked up the lh side of the engine. In like Flynn.
