Losing Things

When i was still working, i made some beautiful 6061 rocker shaft stands for my early maxwedge heads. Thicker, bigger, stronger, better material than the oem cast stands.
So proud of them, i put em in a safe place till i need em.
Sure wish i could FIND that safe place.

I have had my 69 RR since 1981. Can't remember if it had a fender tag. Years ago I ran into a super bird owner and his tag was missing. He said he removed it
In case it ever got stolen. So I may have removed mine when I put the car in storage in 1998.

wish I could find it

I was looking for my distributor wrench Sunday. Looked in the drawer 3 times couldn’t find it. My son came over to help me with the car. Looked in the drawer again there it was. I spent 30 minutes looking for it. Age doesn’t help

Meaning, the MARINES????
Lol, went to bathroom one time at work & the boss came in right after (USAF); I got done, zipped up and started to leave. He said “not washing your hands?”. Nope, too dirty and besides they taught us not to pee on your hands. He reminded me of that for years. Semper Fi.

I once went into my bedroom and decided to take a nap. Shortly after I laid down I heard someone in the living room clear their throat, then I remembered I came into the bedroom to get my wallet for the pizza delivery guy.

I am disorganized but rarely lose anything as I am blessed with a good memory. I also live alone, so no one around to move my stuff!
However I had a frustrating experience recently losing a receipt. I have been getting my Ram's oil changed at the dealer as its under warranty, and I want my oil changes fully documented if I ever have an engine claim.
About a month ago, I ran across an ad for a Pennzoil rebate on ultra platinum oil changes. I thought, great, I just had a oil change done in March! So I went into my Rams glove compartment to get the receipt so I could submit my rebate. I found the receipts for the last couple year's oil changes, but not the one from a few months ago. I tore apart every storage nook in the truck, not there. I searched my stacks of paper in the house, nope! Back to the truck and dug around more, it's got to be there?? No dice. I finally gave up and hoped the oil change record was in Carfax if I ever have a engine problem and need proof I've done the oil changes when required.
Then last weekend I went to change my cabin air filter, and had to take the glove compartment out to get at the housing. I took it off, and lo and behold, there was my oil change receipt from March! It somehow slipped over the top of the glove compartment and was hidden there behind it! Rebate period ends May 31st, so I found it with a week to spare. Submitted my rebate request the other night, and the receipt is now with the others for my records of proper maintenance.

I lost a dual hardshell carrier, for 2 sets of golf clubs,
like one for when you fly so stuff doesn't get broken
a buddy wanted to barrow it...
I told him come by, that it's in my shed
he did & we looked for an hr for the damn thing
it's only a 12' x 8' shed, w/1 big shelf in the back
& not that cluttered either,
everything is pretty much in it's place
it shouldn't be too difficult, but we/I failed

I told him I must of loaned it to someone else & never got it back
hadn't used it since I fully retired a few (almost 4) years ago
I racked my brain trying to remember, nothing came to mind :BangHead:

Like a week or so later I found it, on the 8' x 4' wide shelf, above in the back
under the boat canopy/like a Bimini top with alum standoffs, that I never use
& has been stored for ever...
I swore I moved that canopy at least twice looking for it, too...

Oh well

1/4" drive 10 mm socket
& a 3/8" 12pt combo wrench, I need for 6bbl intake bolts from ARP
I know have several of each

I live a block from the lake and launch. No need for a transom saver, but I have one. Can't find it. All my boat stuff is in an area of the garage. We're leaving tomorrow so.. I rednecked one.
Even added eyebolts and a bungee strap. Lag bolt through the trailer might help too.

I’ve been wondering for years now where my nice hardly used, only had it on my Miata for a few thousand miles, T3 ceramic bearing turbo is. I can’t find where I put it, don’t really have a project for it, but I wish I knew where it was. I sometimes wonder if the ex did something to it to be spiteful at some point.

I guess it would be a good upgrade for the old Daytona turbo that I can’t even give away….

It's not that I lose things, I put them in a special place so they don't get lost. It's that special place that I can't find. I have several of these special places, I guess.

Michelle picks on me because I keep things in the gun safe (closet sized). Keys. Wallet. Noise cancelling earbuds. Charging cords for watches, and watches on charge. Checkbooks. Car and motorcycle titles. Little stuff that's easy to lose but important to have.

I have a concert PA. It goes in one of 3 places - storage in the corner of the shop; the bed of the truck (it only fits one way); in the 6x12 trailer (large version for outdoor gigs; again, it only fits one way). Any deviation from those 3 result in my forgetting... something. Mic stand bag. Adaptor box. Work box. One ®÷€°ing patch cable. Backpack with laptop and tablets for system control. I gotta stick to the routine, to get it right every single time.

I do, however, own five Dremel tools.

Look forever... give up...buy replacement...find the missing one soon as I get home.

George Carlin was was on a 1986 Johnny Carson episode last night talking about losing things. "The longer you look, the dumber the places you look, is it in the freezer? In the toilet tank? In a coat you haven't worn in 10 years? Check all your pockets again!"
