So I've heard lots of people mention a lower radiator hose spring when trouble shooting cooling problems. What is this spring please? Where does one get this spring? I ordered replacement Mopar hoses and I can't tell if there's spring in the lower hose. Is it in the middle of the hose, at the ends, where exactly? And if its not in the hose, what to do.

TIA!

The spring will be in the middle of the lower hose. It's wound like a coil that just fits inside to prevent the water pump action from collapsing the hose. If the new hose didn't come with one installed you can take one out of an old hose of the same diameter. Any radiator shop should have extras.

I have never had a spring in any of my lower hoses on any of my cars for as long as I can remember...and I have owned my 66 since 1974....

Yea, my current lower hose feels like there is no spring in it and I've had no cooling issues to date with the car. However, the FSM does mention inspecting and replacing the lower hose inner spring if necessary.

I'm just making mental notes of what to take care of as the new motor goes in.

Found the spring. Guy over on the Lift Off Hood A12 forum has them. :hello2:

Care to share info on who, where, and how much for the springs? I might need one as well.

Thanks

@ lowes the $7 sprinkler head for in ground sprinkler system ....take the sprinkler head apart and the spring is perfect and stainless steel too.
