Should the inner carburetor mounting holes be left open or be plugged? I noticed the left rear inner hole had some black soot around it like it had a vaccum leak. 440 single plane M1 intake.

They are under the gasket and are covered by the ears of the carb plate so there should be nothing there unless the gasket was leaking.
