Mannix was driving a 69 Charger R/T SE in season 3 episode 20.

My wife recorded some Mannix episodes,and the one we watched tonight Joe was driving a 69 Charger R/T SE. It was T5 bronze with a white vynal top and tailstripe. Someone was trying to kill Joe,so he opened the hood on the car,and there was dynomite wired to the coil on the 440 magnum. The car was in a few scenes. It's always cool to see Mopars on TV,especially Chargers!

Man I wish I was around when these cars were all over even in the early 80's......I was born in 87 so I never got the chance to see them jut driving around. I remember being little and going for rides in my dad's 66 Charger and seeing my uncle with his 67 coronet convertible 340 cruising around, but never got to see alot of them all just driving around.

I was fortunate to grow up with these cars. My parents bought a 70 Charger R/T SE new when I was 6 years old. My brother in law had a 70 Challenger R/T 440 Sixpack car. I had older sisters,they had boyfriends over the years that had all kinds of cool muscle cars,like GTOs,Road Runners,Chevelle SS,Mustangs,Cudas,Challengers etc. Those were cool times. Lots of cool musclecars were around,with all the 70 mods done to them.

Was a Mannix fan; in one episode it was painful to watch his '71 Cuda get mangled up. Usually when some bad guy was shooting at him they missed except for hitting the rear view mirror...lol. My wife was watching a Wheel of Fortune show once and the contestants had to complete a phrase...they got every letter except the last! "Who was Joe Manni_. Nobody could get the last letter "X"!

Alfred Hitchcock show was on before Mannix last night,and in that show,they were driving 1965 Mopars. The main Character had a 65 Coronet,he pulled up to an apartment building,that had a 65 Barracuda,and a 65 Dart GT convertible parked there. He later went with another guy in a 65 Imperial. Chrysler was big on television back then,and product placement was everything.

In an earlier thread, I posted I'm so old I drove a '69 GTX with new car smell. To have experienced these cars brand new while just reaching driving age... no vehicles since have been able to beat their attraction.

I wish I was around during that time. I was born in '77 so I'm a kid from the '80s. I can remember when I was really little seeing chargers in back yards and driveways. But it seemed to all dry up in the late 80's. My favorite car/ kid memory was it was fall of 1985 and a high school kid from the area had a yellow 69 charger R/T. It had a pistol grip 4 speed which was the first I ever saw. It was jacked up with deep dish vector wheels. It had these fur seat covers and thought that was weird. Just a total 80s machine! Lol but I loved it!! He was always at the dairy queen down from my house picking up on the chick's that worked there. I use to ride my bike down there and drool over the car hoping the kid would give me a ride. Im still chasing that car with no luck! I'm a total vin dork and wish I would of been smart enough to copy down the vin. I often think of that car and wonder what happened to it.

My sister bought a 70 duster 340 4 speed red with black stripe and rear spoiler brand new my dad went with her talked her out of a slant six he drove a 70 imperial with a 440 my brother had a 70 Rt challenger 440 pistol grip 4 speed so my first car was a used 69 roadrunner big block 4 speed car and my second car was a 69 super bee
You could buy them cheap back then

Not very many cops to slow you down and you could leave them in the dust too

His Hollywood name at the time was Mike Connors his previous name was "Touch" Connors. Also drove a "73" Cuda convertible Which didn't really exist. A 71 was used with a transplanted 72-73 facia as Chrysler was the car sponsor of the show.

The gold Challenger convertible is from the Mod Squad television show. Mannix,the Mod Squad,Medical Center,and the Brady Bunch shows,all had 71 Convertibles that were modified to look like 72 models. Mannix did drive a Challenger in the 73 season,but it was a hardtop with a factory sunroof. He switched to a Camaro for the 74 season.

Thought they had used the '70 Cuda to make it look like a '72 given the closer front end resemblance btw the two?

I think that the 1970 Cuda convertibles were updated to look like 71s because,even though the cars were Cuda's,they never had the Cuda louvered fenders. Then I think they updated them again to look like a 72 model,including the grille,and tailpanel. Supposedly one of the Mannix cars survived,and was restored in 72 trim as pictured in this thread. It would be interesting to see the VIN on the car.
