I've got some play on my new 16.1 ratio manual steering box and already adjusted the screw a few turns. The steering gear needs a minimum amount of play.

I'm looking for an alternative to make it steer more firm. I want to reuse my electric PS which is mounted on the steering column.

Can anybody get me in the right direction?

Sounds like you have a bad box. I have used a couple of PST's 16:1 manual sectors, and they are nice and tight.

Can define the definition of tight? How many play do you have? I understand that a certain amount of play is needed or else the gears will destroy themselves.

Have
someone turn the steering wherl back and forth and watch the bade of the column, coupler, and all the steering linkage. You should be able to tell where the play is.

It’s in the box. When holding the steering wheel and having the front of the car of the ground, the wheels can be turned about 5mm (sorry in Europe). The damn adjustable screw doesn’t have hex on it so tightening it isn’t that easy.

Tight, meaning about zero free play at the 12:00 position. That screw you are turning is not really the adjuster to tighten up any slop, and if you were able to turn it more than 1 turn, something is majorly wrong inside. The adjustment is the big nut needing a spanner wrench to turn, and is more involved. I would be returning that box to RA and find something else.
