Matching #'s ???

Not sure how that matters in relation to the question?

Just like that casting number relates to nothing if you don't plan on selling the car and love just owning it.....

you you have a great story to tell if you keep it and if you sell it then you have another story to convince somebody of

My 69' GTS and Coronet is the same way. as long as they are there is good enough. The tool the tech used could be simply laid out differently for the body numbers versus the engine and VIN.
The last 8 numbers on my rad support should read 9A132142 but they stamped A9132142,I guess anything is possible

Are you referring to the first two characters (year and plant) being transposed?

That is the normal stamping.

Does anyone have a good pic where this stamping area is near the distributor? I either don't have it or just cant find it with these blind eyes!

Just want to thank everyone for trying to help me verify the #'s on my engine. I looked again and just can't see anything around the distributor. I'm not usually a quitter but I'm starting to obsess over this and I guess it's time to just enjoy my car wether it's #'s matching or not. Hey at least I found out it's a real RR!

Enjoy your car. You have a beautiful loaded Roadrunner. Chances are good it's matching numbers but it's not the end of the world if it's not. You're right the main issue as I recall was just verifying the car was a legit RR. It is for sure - now enjoy!

Thats what I was trying to say with my post when you got a little upset with me asking what my statement had to do with your question.

My point is enjoy the car, love it and drive it. Who cares about numbers matching unless you plan to sell it or paid extra money for it ya know?

well,a lot of the time, someones painted Over the stamped numbers, the paint fills the stamping and you cant see it.
very painful to say,esp if that motors fresh paint, but your numbers are under that coat of paint.
look at that flat surface in his pic right next to the head and adjacent to the distributor hole.
thats your spot.
also,on the other side of the block, from where u took that pic,
should be a casting date.

no matter what, its still a beautiful RR,so i wouldnt worry about it much :)

Ok because of beatersRus's last post with very specific placement (thanks beater!) I took another look and damned if I didn't find numbers. Here's what it looks like:

E383
7 8 2
P?

Are you absolutely sure about those numbers?

Not absolutely sure but even had my daughter look because my eyes suck!

OK...let me see if I have this straight....

We have a block cast in May of 1968, stamped with an engine assembly date of July 8 (1969), misstamped stamped with a VIN, in a car that relates to an August of '68 scheduled production date.

For comparison, here are some other stamped VINS from about the same time and plant.

So are you alluding to my vin stamping being counterfeit, wouldn't they have used the correct vin # if that's the case?
