Max Wedge and A990 cars

So you can order them from here done? And they take the big dog dish? I didn’t think any company made them. That’s awesome.
All done and ready to go with the correct center. The originals on the Max Wedge had all the “extra” holes. Which are really not extra holes, the ones you see most frequently on these cars today have less holes which is not really correct if your are trying to replicate the original 14” wheels. In 15” of course.

I didn’t know that about the holes. I thought originals only had the one hole like in the picture I attached. Good to know!

Here's a set of 15x8 wheelsmith did for me a few years ago for my 65 plymouth which I can't complain at all.

these are max wedge option only 14x6.5 K wheels the extra holes are really not perfectly round they have a notch cut in them for the spring metal hub cap tabs.

152.00 wheels and 50.00 extra for powder coat 202.00 Total. Not sure I will like the powder coat but worth a shot. Can always paint gloss black over the fronts.

Nice! rare set you have there. Are they #2122468? Those are exactly what I was trying to replicate only in 15" as I already have the cheater slicks. This is for a 65 Belvedere 1. Some lite reading in the pictures attached. Note all the extra holes same as in the 14 x 6.5 wedge optional wheels. Any buddy have a pic of the 14x5.5K steelies that were standard on the wedge cars? Part #2084628 according to Jim Schilds book. However another reliable source says this wheel and part number was discontinued in 1961 and replace by #2988523! Who knows! LOL. So in other words its your car put on what you like! Always works out in the long run.

The wheelsmith 15x8's on your 65 look good.
Did the original A990 cars have the same style of wheel as on the max wedge cars with all the holes between the bolt holes for the caps?

I am under the impression they did. According to the info I posted above they did if you got either the optional 14 x 6.5 or the optional 15 x 6. I would assume all centers were the same and therefore the standard wheel would have them too?

The 15 inch centers are larger than the 14 inch centers. The 14 inch centers can't be made into 15 inch wheels , because there are no bands ( outters ) that will make that happen. So to make wider 15 inch wheels ,
you have to cut a 15 inch wheel , that's a waste of a good wheel. That was a lot of the driving force behind getting my centers made. The original 15 inch wheels are getting in short supply.

Yes sir. I was referring to the fact that both the 14" and 15" had the extra holes as shown in the postings above. In my humble opinion your centers are "correct" in design as to the originals for the specific vehicles above. Good job!

Ok , yes , now I understand where you were going , sorry I didn't catch it before. Thanks for your kind words about my centers.

Frank,
Where did you get your centers made or did you just have wheelsmith make your 15" wheels?
I know a guy in WI, Darrin Stankie that reproduces the 15x6 H rims for the 69 6PK cars. The 15x6 rims are drying up.

Here's some very early photos if you zoom in you will see the double hole pattern. also every original 63-64 dodge & ply max wedge & hemi owners manual I have call for the optional 14x6.5 K wheel including the elusive parts poster that has a break down of every part & it's part number for a MW car. for what it's worth don't take everything that you read in Jim schild's or Pete haldimans book as the gospel some of the BS in there is just expensive toilet reading you are better off researching a factory parts manual or finding some original documents.

No 468 PN & honestly I have never seen a set of wheels with that PN on them anywhere not saying they don't exist. I guess if we wanted to be technical the black wheels in the picture are probably for a 62 car judging by the sticker & with the date code of L2 & the grey wheel which is identical expect for the stampings are in a different spot & it is used but has a date code H3 are probably for a 63 or maybe even a 64 car.
For you guys that don't know in the early days chrysler stamped the wheel size at the valve stem which is also a good way to spot a real from a fake.

I got the centers made , it was my idea , with the help of a friend that does CAD work and has connections.
The Wheelsmith buys my centers to build the wheels. Another place in CA , Custom and Commercial wheels has built wheels for some customers. Also Diamond Racing Wheels in WI has built wheels for some customers .
