Mecum Auction cars under $15,000

Some barn find/project cars on this video went for barely over scrap price (Mecum Kansas City 2025):

40's and early 50's cars have never commanded anywhere near mid 50's car prices.

...unless they're "woodies".

40's cars make the best hot rods. People spend gonzo dollars altering them into the iconic stuff we all know for the last 50 years.
In stock form? Even perfectly restored they are a project car waiting to get converted into American gearhead art.

One of the prior owners of my fifth GTX owned a car lot in Milwaukee. He told me he sold a lot of 40s based street rods. He bought them at Mecum Chicago for a fraction of what had been put into them. Not much demand for them at auction. Prior owners were dying off faster than new buyers were entering the hobby.
