Missed it by that much!!!

Man, I have enough trouble with just one cam let alone 4 of em!!

Why would this motor spin a rod bearing??
I have not heard of any late model motors with problems of spinning a main or rod bearing?
Most likely got overheated good once.

nice job...... looks like a major pain in the ***....... my wife's car is disposable, but it is also a Toyota

Neglect. Only way to say it. This is what happens when you let a computer algorithm tell you when to change your oil. This was on me. Not a design problem.

Never overheated. Oil broke down. I'm way better than this neglect. It will not happen again.

My soon to be X is terrible about checking things on her car and well, I just wonder what she's going to do once things are final and I move away.....

GMC = Generally Made Crappy, Garbage Maintance Crew, Glossy Made Chevy, Get More Cash,
I will never buy anything with a distributor in the back period. Sounds like you need to have a mysterious fire :steering:
I know this is an old post, but many good running engines have rear distributors. My 3.9 and 5.2 Dodge are good examples.

I know your pain! I have a buddys caddy here ! Busted the left timing chain and took out a few other items on the way out. Same exact motor . Not sure why your getting rapped so badly on that he bought a junk yard motor for $800 with 60K miles on it . The install is the trick !!!! I'm never going to be nice to someone without tits again!

yep all the junk yards around here (LKG,Browns, and Blacks) wanted big money for them.. Way happier I went this way. About 2700 all in. New everything(water pump,belt,etc.). Its a pain on the fwd cars. Same on the caddy I think, some of those are rear wheel drive..

What year is the Enclave?

How many miles?
I'd be kinda pissed if was any less than 180k

I've done that before. Never shelled the motor though.

I've seen my grandfather (most impatient person alive) hop in a tractor a drive off while the oil was draining. (Actually knocked the 5 gallon bucket full of used oil over)
He made it about 100 yards before I caught up to him and killed the tractor.
Motor ran for a good 60 sec w/o oil.
From then on I always remove key and place on floor of every vehicle I service.

The said tractor still runs with original engine that has well over 10k hours on it.
Perhaps just another example of how "they don't build 'em like they use to"
Or maybe it's just the ruggedness of late 70s Japanese Diesel Engineering.

Should have bought her a bus pass, and the new drive train for the RR.

Hit the 100 mile oil change pretty quick. No metal in the filter. Changed it again at 1000 still looking good. Trip to the Elcamino show in central louisiana. And a trip to Mopar fest at the battleship and this weekend should be the 4000 oil change. Not bragging. But she is doing good so far. Haven't run it up in the rpm at all. Being super easy on it.

Looks good! New motors seem like a nightmare to work on, I'm not sure I would have the patience anymore. Last "newer" motor I worked on was my Dad's 4.5L Caddy v-8 and it was a flaming turd. Floating cylinder sleeves and helicoiled head bolts. I hated working on that.
