I see a lot of adds on facebook for a Montana Title for $300. Has anyone ever did this? Or is it a scam?

Thanks

Sounds fishy to me.

Scam a lot Monty Python.gif

Maybe the residents of a nearby state have diversified a bit......

Are you buying a car with bill of sale? Why cant they get a title. Go to DMV and run the vin number before purchase. There are options.

The Pumpkin had a title dated in 1979 from Oklahoma signed over to someone in 1980 with no chance of finding the guy. Sent the paperwork to Maine title with a police verification and received a Montana title in my name. Easily transferred it to a Sc title. Was about $650 to get done.

How about a Wisc. Bonded Title? I’ve done that twice here in Ar. and it wasn’t expensive or difficult. In Ar. the title cleared in 3 years, I see Wisc. is 5 years.

NO, not a scam. Well monied folks, or just people with lots of cars, set up an LLC in Montana to run their cars/assets thru due to exceptional tax advantages. There are businesses that specialise in doing this for you; the charge to set up a simple LLC is as low as $80 sometimes. [last time I looked] Depending on where you live, it might 'pay' to do so even if you have a couple of cars if you live in a more-ridiculous-than-most state for taxation.

I have this monied buddy who does crazy things. He bought a very expensive motorhome...a Provost and didn't want to pay the huge registration fee in Az that is tied to the book value. So he bought a house in Montana.

that's strange,
but it worked & did it legally

Here in Michigan say you buy a RV. The state charges the price of plates on the original sales price with some discount. It’s still like $1500. Then you pat 6 % in sales tax on your purchase. And yes when you sell it they want to charge you state income tax on how much you sold it for. They say that’s all good and legal. If you start an LLC in Montana it’s roughly $1000. Then you register your RV wth the LLC. No sales tax or $1500 plate/year. Montana plates are $50 a year. You be the judge.

They charge the buyer a sales tax and the seller?
