Any run a 474 cam? I am considering buying one but can't find info on springs anywhere.

Shouldn't be too tough to figure out.... in the old days that would likely call for the Hemi spring #933's or green stripes they were called by DC (mp)..
Do you have a catalog number or manufacturer for your cam??

Looked at an old mopar performance catalog...it said use exactly what I told you; P3690933, so lemme see if I can find the specs on that....1.83/1.86 installed hgt, single w/damper, 1.53 od, .224 wire Dia, .440 to .500 lift range, chrome vanadium, use P4452033/P4286573 retainers. I have to dig out a different book for the spring pressures.....had a little trouble finding the pressures for comparison sake...maybe Mancini can answer...they still sell that spring...there are many others that could work well in that application;

FWIW, I ran that cam decades ago in a 383 '69 Road Runner with stock converter & 3.23s, basically a stock restoration.
It was a bit healthier-sounding than the stock cam and was easy to live with.
Car ran well but wasn't especially fast, which I was OK with.
I don't recall the springs I used, but likely they were the MP recommendation or something similar.
Technology has come a long way since then, if you're looking for more power but still with good street manners.
Nowadays I'd run something with more lift, not too much duration or overlap on the street.
Had a 406" SB in a Duster with AC and ran an Engle hydraulic FT: 214/224 @ .050, .470/.504 lift IIRC.
Sounded healthy, but ran stronger on the street, made good vacuum, had xlnt throttle response, would pull 17 MPG.

There's these out there...

Excellent reply/answer @Lefty71 Well done.

Below is what I found for spring pressures in the small block and big block books.

Small block top picture shows the same spring number so I took two pictures and the installed specs are the same in height.

I use it in my 440 C body. Pretty good all around driver with a little sound to it. I'm using it with ancient MP 933 springs from the '90s, which was MP's recommended part.

Did you have to machine your heads for the springs?

Rumblefish, you just triggered my memory. Years ago the A block 3412068 spring would be used with the .474-.509 cams in a big block as a replacement for the 933 because you did not have to machine the heads....and that is what I was trying to find/remember...thx!

No... they should fit BB iron heads. And stock valve seals will work too, with this cam or a .509. But, please measure, don't take my word for it. I, personally would always double check.

The springs dropped right in, the stock retainers were re-used but to be honest are not 100% perfect fit for the spring, the spring is slightly larger OD than the retainer, but the retainers have been ok in spite of that. Stock seals still work.

I run this cam in my 68 Charger. Def has a bit of a lope but not terrible.
Ran 13 flat in the 1/4 in the following config:
440 10:1
.030 over
346 heads with 2.14/1.81 valves. Bowles blended
Crane springs with damper
Headers
Edelbeock 1407 carb
3.55 suregrip.

Probably my favorite street mp cam from back in the day.The .455 one size smaller being a close second (first choice in a heavy C body).
Ran the .474 in a mild 440 with an 11" converter and 3.55 gears and LOVED it! Good sound and good power. A modern equivalent IMO would be the comp xe274.

Here is how Jigsaw sounds with this cam

9.3 compression, iron '346 heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Holley 750 and 1 7/8" headers.

Just waiting for everything to come back from the machine shop.
440 10:1
.030 over (six pack short block)
452 RV heads with 2.14/1.81 valves.
Stock HP exhaust manifolds
Holley 850 vacuum secondary (80531)
3.55 suregrip.
