Hello:

As the brake pedal is laying against the floor during my disc conversion, I thought I'd troubleshoot the back up light switch. As you already know, the steering column actuation pin is broken.

Someone here, or one of my various Motorhead friends told me there was a Mopar Action magazine article years ago describing how to add a back up light switch+neutral safety switch to the 68 auto trans.

Anyone know a source for the article, or perhaps describe here the technique?

Thanks for all of the help. Take care, Bill

Billccm, I am waiting for my Rock Auto order to show up to convert my 68 Valiant, Part# 9A6 Airtex/Wells for the 3 prong neutral safety switch,#4755 Standard Motor Products for the 3 prong plug. The center wire is the connection for the safety switch wire. The outer 2 wire connections , run wires up to the plug for the old column switch power source. Cost was $25. Done. It listed that # for the 68 switch.I believe Chrysler made 2 or 3 different switches when they changed the Valvebody for part kickdown.Compare your old one wire switch length to the 3 prong before installing it.

Thank you, Darter. Let me know how it works out. I plan on just taking a lug connector + wire down to the transmission switch.

Question: I assume you have a 904 and the same switch is good for the 727?

At least I know I have the correct rooster comb.
I have to check my 'rooster'; the seller disclosed that my car 'might' have a later model 727. Not sure in that it has a 1 terminal neutral safety switch. At least the engine is original.

Do you know the name of the article. Have a disc of Mopar Action tech articles, no article title popped out about your problem.

Someone had mentioned the article to me. Not sure if it was a FBBO member, or one of my motorhead friends. Thanks for looking!

I see, That is why I said that you need to compare the length of both switches. I ran into this on a 80 Dodge Aspen and found out it had a 1966 transmission. The safety part of the switch worked but the reverse lights stayed on in all but park.
