hello, i have a 68' 318 with a mopar performance electronic ignition conversion kit that i purchased about 20 years ago. the vacuum advance is leaking.can i replace it with any vacuum advance for a chrysler distributor or is it different? thanks

Any stock replacement will make the job.

However these come with diff lbs adjustment. This is stamped on the vacuum arm.

All the one’s I’ve bought have been adjustable with an Allen wrench down the hose nipple

sure, and factory with the arm stamped are too... but just letting know trying to install straight out of the box will have this diff ( or not ), it can be allways readjusted and calibrated having the tools.

The canisters are different between big block and small block. Also make sure you get the exact same style/shape arm you have now. It was a huge pain for me to find the right can for my points unit a few months ago due to variations.

yes I have read the points dist canisters are allmost imposible to find, but I think by now electrical ignition distributors are easy to find... yet

thank you for the replies. i heard that that distributor uses a different pick up so i didnt know if the vacuum canister was different

False, dist pickup is the same too. Depending on year, the only difference is the adjustable mechanical advance system ( and the rotor being indexed different ). These were built by Mallory back in the days. I think earlier MP dist are exactly same stock distributor but just diff advance setup built with diff counterweight springs, limit slots and vacuum adjust. Non adjustable mech advance system

Not so fast there Nacho, the numbers stamped on OE vacuum canister arms have nothing to do with the adjustable spring tension setting. They represent the total distributor degree advance as set by the limiting slot on the arm. Most will also indicate “L” or “R”, left hand rotation or right rotation.

sure, but readjusting the setting screw will require more ( or less ) vacuum to move it... what it means, on same given car on same vacuum rate, will affect the vacuum advance... right ?

The spring adjustment will change amount of timing in relation to the level of vacuum but is not the limiting factor. The numbers stamped on the arm has nothing to do with spring adjustment.
