motor mount design question

OK, i am just curious, but my OEM style motor mounts have this 'flap' of metal that sort of hangs over the side of the mount. For the life of me, I cannot see what purpose this serves.
Any ideas?

Maybe when the rubber breaks loose it keeps the motor in place?

It's actually a slant 6 mount, might also be used with the V8's.

It may just be a manufacturing thing - a way for workers to recognize two different components. Perhaps for orientation into a jig or mould if there is right and left.
