I keep telling people to look at the overall picture of active eruptions and potential for large calderas to blow. I just have a mild suspicion that all is not as calm as it may seem...

There's active volcanic movement in the Philippines and Hawaii as well. Seriously hope we're not looking at a planetarium orgasm - no joke intended. I've been to the PI after MT. Binitubo erupted and have never seen anything like the devastation caused. It was like a nuclear disaster had occurred.

I agree, I was 70 miles from Mt St Helens when it went and it sounded and felt like I was standing next to it. For about a minute or so we were convinced that it WAS a nuclear bomb impact.

Yellowstone has a giant callers underneath it. It averages one eruption of biblical proportions every 500,000 years for the past few million.
It's been over 600k since it's last eruption, activity in the thermal springs has been indicating that another eruption may be in the works.
