I've got a 440 in a 70 Road Runner which I converted to electronic ignition. It has the Mopar Performance distributor (& MSD box, no ballast resistor). I had a minor (thank God!) engine fire that melted the distributor pickup wires and plug. I need to replace the ignition pickup inside the distributor.

The Autozone Standard parts pickup looks very poorly made. I want to install a factory Mopar ignition pickup. What part number should I be looking for?

THANK YOU!

The following table lists Chrysler and aftermarket part numbers for the magnetic pick-up used in this distributor and other Chrysler eight cylinder electronic distributors, 1971 - 1981, except later Electronic Lean Burn, Electronic Spark Control, Electronic Spark Advance, dual pick-up.

Later production of these, as you noted, is typically not good. Earlier production, including aftermarket, is usually good. Some of the aftermarket companies are gone, but the parts can still be found.

Chrysler originally serviced the pick-up coil only as part number 3656025, with the upper and lower plate assembly serviced as part number 3656023. In 1973, these were combined as part number 3656738. The pick-up coil is riveted to the upper plate and the upper plate is retained on the lower plate by a clip. The aftermarket sold some like 3656738, but most became the pickup coil and upper plate only.
