My 62 is ready for a cruise!

Thanks for the explanation... I guess I could have googled it and found out the Borg Warner makes that component.

Great looking car Chairman. I have a black 62 and seeing those torque thrusts on yours has got me thinking

Also…What’s your 512 recipe?

Thanks for your response on the wheels as I have always been a fan of torque thrusts. I was initially just going with a top end Edelbrock RPM Performer package and decided to also go with Pro-Flo Fuel Injection. The Doug's Headers and a couple of friends that convinced me to use 3" exhaust also thought I should do the bottom end with a stroker set-up. So I got in touch with Source440 and they put all the components together for the 512. My installer is working on wiring, the cooling system and putting the power brake booster all back together. Hoping that we would of had it done before the snow flies but that might be tomorrow so I guess we will wait for dry pavement before we take a test drive as we are sure we won't need slick roads to spin the rear wheels!

Just an update on my 512 project.... The things that you find out about modifying and replacing factory components with aftermarket items. Source 440 bottom end with the Edelbrock RPM kit and using the Pro Flo 4 fuel injection created an unexplained situation on start up procedures for the break-in of the included cam and lifters. I didn't know that when buying the Pro Flo 4 system it is made for an engine that has been running on a carb system. All the start up procedures and settings indicate that the new system will perform the protocol to get it running properly when you install it on an engine that is already broke in. This includes the system heating up to a specified temperature and then perhaps shutting down. Then it will run at different RPM settings to establish proper fuel flow. I think all of that is probably great for it to sort of self learn on it's own. Technology! But it won't allow you to override the throttle and get this fresh new engine up to 2000 or so RPM for the 15 to 20 minute break-in period. The Edelbrock people told us to take off the new Pro Flo fuel injection throttle body, remove the new electronic distributor and install the 4V carb and the old distributor and break-in the engine with those components and then install the Pro Flo 4 system and the new electronic distributor. Just another lesson learned or have any of you discovered another way to do this? Well I don't think even that question is appropriate as we are doing what Edelbrock has made clear how it needs to be done. Just posted this for anyone else thinking about rebuilding and going with any electronic fuel injection system on a fresh engine.... Perhaps by the end of the week this 2 year long project will roar back to life!

Thanks for the update.

So you used flat tappet lifters?

Yes and worried about the risk of the start-up but at the time of thinking roller or flat I just wanted it to be more of a 60's type of engine... Then I think I might have over thought the new EFI systems as that sure isn't an old school look. Why I worried about an engine that could easily start in the winter when I sure as heck won't be driving it then..... anyway the engine fired up last night and ran beautiful for 20 minutes! It wasn't too big of a deal switching to the 4V carb and putting in the old distributor to accomplish this break-in procedure. However, a glitch in the process showed up, the brand new heater core leaked!! So now I guess I will shop for another one. Got a good brand selection by chance? I bought this one from Mancini Racing.

I have no experience with what new heater core would be good to by other than taking the old one to a radiator shop and that could be more expensive than a new one.

Glad you break in went okay.
