My 440 is finally built and spent most of the day tuning and adjusting on the Dyno. When I sat down with Dave a couple years ago to discuss the build, we came to the conclusion that the motor I was looking for was something that was fun between the lights and streetable. Also, this is the original engine for my GTX and all the time & $$$ spent on the body, pretty much assured this was a cruise night only vehicle that would never see the track. The short block was assembled with the original crankshaft, eagle rods, and Racetech Forged pistons. We did not zero deck the block, and kept the compression at 9:5:1. I went with a Competition cams XR280HR-10 hydraulic roller cam with matching lifters. We swapped the original heads with a set of Edelbrock Performer RPM heads (84cc) with roller rockers and some very mild porting. Because I have hood clearance issues, we had to go with the Performer RPM manifold with a Proform 750 Street carb and mid grade set of Summit Racing headers. After about 6 pulls on the dyno, and a bunch of timing adjustments along with jet size changing, the engine is pretty much dialed in - a tad on the rich side, but I am relocating to Florida so we accounted for the move to a lower altitude. Here is a video of the last pull and the numbers. While it won't win monster HP awards, the torque numbers are pretty good and I am pretty excited to see how this will work in the GTX with 3:55 gears, 2200 Stall, and 18 inch wheels in the rear.
