My Air Grabber

You should start the restoration thread now, even if it's small. All the threads in the Members Restoration section started off small, but, plugging away at it it gets big, and lots of people read/watch the progress being made. We're all shade tree mechanics in some form or another! :)

I think that if you're changing the trunk floor, and the quarters are on it, a full one-piece may not fit in thru the trunk opening, I may be wrong, and others on here likely will know, but a 2 piece trunk for sure will slip in.

I believe that the center section of my trunk floor is the only area that needs to be replaced. If this is the case, then I plan to buy a one piece trunk floor and cut away the areas of the replacement piece that I don't need. This will most likely then fit into the trunk and save me a weld. Ideally, I will cut in nice flat areas where it will be easy to weld the original remaining trunk floor with the replacement piece. This way I can grind down the welds easily and make it look very neat and original.

The only other rust repair where I need to replace metal are the lower quarters behind the wheel wells - small patch panels will do. I also need the inner trunk extensions and a couple other dime sized holes I am hoping can be fixed with a small pieces of metal. The rest of the body can be cleaned up by knocking out dings & dents, . Again, I am not a bodywork guy so we'll see how far I get. I am sure I will farm out some of the tricker stuff because this car deserves to get a really nice restoration.

I plan to go to the grave with this one, so it (hopefully :eusa_pray:) has to last quite a while!!!

I'll start a restoration thread soon, once I start working on the car...

Thanks for the continued advice! I'll take all I can get, because knowledge is power! Hopefully as I go along, I can contribute to the forum as well...

As far as I remember, all 4-speed Mopars from 70-74 came with pistol grips - I think there were 3 different ones (E-body, B-body non-console, and B-body with console) if I'm wrong here feel free to correct me so I can correct the mental "database"

70 B-Body consoles were the same as 67-69 B-Body consoles and were offered in both 4spd and auto. I believe the 4spd console was an option with E-Bodies because I have seen 4spd E-Bodies with and without consoles. I believe 71-74 B-Bodies were offered with 4spds with no console but the E-Body 4spd console is the same as a 71-74 B-Body and will bolt right into a B-Body.

I was actually referring to the shape of the shifter handle itself- e-bodies were short & straight; non-console b-bodies had about a 1" offset to the right (long handle) and b-body console cars had 2 offsets to the right to center the long handle in the console opening.
