I have a 727 that shifts manually........backwards. Connected to a B&M floor shifter. For example, Drive=1st, back one click is 2nd,and all the way back is 3rd(should be first)

It wont go thru the gears automatically in drive, but shifts fantastic manually.

Why is this? It doesnt bother me a whole lot its just wierd and would like to know why.

Sounds like the plate that indicates the gear pattern is wrong too. Contact b&m to get the correct 'reverse pattern'. Post a pic and i'll tell you what model you have.

Never heard of that, thanks moparmarks, Im at work right now so I wont have a pic till later today.

So with this VB will it not shift like a normal auto trans when put into drive?

if you are planing on driving this car alot, you will want to change it back to a normal auto trans.i love the manual reverse valve bodys, but i drive like i am racing all the time.you will get very tired of shifting if you are not used to it.plus, you will notice, downshifting will have a very weird feeling to it.like trans is slipping.if you cant stand it you may try to trade someone for a normal trans.

Why? How would you know what he wants to do? I drove my Valiant on the street everyday back and forth to work for a little over three years. Full manual reverse pattern valve body. 4.30 gears and 4000 stall. EVERY day. I loved that little car. If somebody hadn't give me more money than I had in it I would still have it.

As long as it shifts im good! And I wont have the kickdown to mess with!

Most people are skeered of manual valve bodies because they shift about as hard as they possibly can. That never bothered me and like you say, you can throw the throttle pressure linkage in the ditch.

I drive on the street all the time with my reverse manual valve body. I have been doing it for over 10 years and I myself love it. Most guys that race some like me like the reverse pattern better because that way you are pulling the shifter back towards you when you are racing. But you have to remember if you put it in 3rd it will be in 3rd gear. You have to take off in first and shift it all the time. But hey its no different then having a stick shift car only you dont have to work a clutch pedal. And as you said no trans throttle pressure linkage to worry about. Ron

I like it because usually, when you have a manual valve body the car is serious enough to have at least a 4 series gear. As long as it's not too terribly much of an incline, and the car is relatively light, you can get away with leavin it in high gear. I did that more than I shifted on the street in my Valiant. As long as you don't crowd it startin off it won't hurt a thing. My car will have 4.56 gears and robably weigh around 3400 pounds so I'm sure I will be able to get by with it on farily level ground.

I've had manual reverse for 40 years and I use my thumb to shift now!:blob1:

I drove mine like that too and you really won't hurt it taking off in 3rd even if you crowd it a little.....but yeah, it's going to work the converter more and add more heat to fluid if you do that.

One thing to know. Does it only coast in 1st gear when backing off the throttle? I'll bet it does. DO NOT LET IT COAST AND THEN HIT THE THROTTLE HARD. Ease back into it until the RPMs match the speed. If not the low roller clutch could be damaged and cause a major trans explosion. I personally have run these valve body's on the street for over 25 years with no problems. Just use caution.
