for the vent window frames on my 68 GTX.

We were running it all around this past weekend and the wife noticed
that the pivot point on the vent window on the pass. side is cracked.

They are both pitted pretty bad, so I would like to replace them. Does anyone
have a source for them? I have tried searching on the net, but no luck.

Any help would be appreciated....

THanks in advance,

Jeff

I haven't seen any aftermarket ones on the market, but will keep my eyes peeled Jeff. The OEM ones are easy enought to find and would be a better route to go IMO. Grand total to get the vent frames rechromed on my '69 was $280 (including knobs and wing glass seat), and they look great! I can imagine if they had them aftermarket, the price would rival twice that much.

Good luck

I agree there is no replacement for OEM. Check the parts section on here. I bet someone is parting something out.

Yeah..

You guys are right about OEM..

Prop.. Appreciate the extra eyeball on these. Cost-wise, that's about what I figured. I just didn't want to have the "X" down for a long period for the work. Got too many shows on the schedule!!

I will post in the parts section about needing these. I did find a bunch of OEM ones on ebay, but none for 68's.

Is is safe to say that any 68 - 70 would fit, or best to stay with 68 only?

No sweat Jeff....always seem to be part shopping so if I see them, I'll let you know.

It would be safe to say '68-70 will work. Someone might need to chime in here, but I do believe some models/year in there had different designs to the vent lever. I'll check tonight between my '68 Coronet and my '69 Roadrunner.

One thing that you should know is that the 4 doors, and Convertible's have taller windows, thus a different frame than what you're looking for.

Good luck

Just scored a pair of frames!

Just before I posted in the parts area, I checked ebay and found a pair off a 69 RR. They are in really decent shape so i bought them. Learned a long time ago, buy it when you see it!

These are frames only, no glass or seals, so i'll have to transfer the glass and put new seals in, but it'll work!

Jeff

Sweet! Sounds like you're obviously moving right along with this project....

Couple things to think about. 1st off, the seals are pricey so be prepared. I have no idea why, but it's almost robbery. 2nd, i'm guessing the front window channel runs that the front of your side windows ride up and down with are probably shot. A little tricky to find, but here's a link to help you along in case they are:

3rd, at the bottom of the rear side window vent frame there is a housing, that housing slides over a stud that gets bolted into the bottom of the door. The facory had a foam type material crammed inbetween that housing and the stud to eliminate ratteling between the two. Use a piece of household weatherstripping/door foam to replace that, it's probably either gone or falling apart. 4th, premark the perimeter of the window adjustment bolts with a china marker or something...Its gonna help when it comes time to tweek that window back in place.

Thanks for the great tips!

I will be replacing all of the window channel felts as they are pretty done in..

Not to mention that both of the main windows do not go flush to the top seal, so they will need to be fiddled with.

I do have a friend that works for a b-body restoration shop and has said he will provide assistance if I need it.
