So I ordered head gaskets for my 67 belvedere 318 and they arrived last night. they don't match. no matter how I try and align them they block off the large water ports for the head.. Do I not have a 66 block.. is there a difference? also no matter how I try and align them, they cover 2 of the lower water ports by more that 50%.

Please help... Thanks.... Jake

here are some pics of what I am seeing.

looks like the right right holes to me is the other sides gasket the one with that hole, its only on one side of the gasket.. edelbrock gasket 7326 has a hole on one side and they are marked 66-87, checked a 66-71 blocks and they have the large holes on each side

Nope.. its on both sides of the gasket and both side of the block..

The gasket is completely blocking off the large water jacket at the top of the block..... it was easier for me to take the picture of the from of the block.. but its blocking off the large water port in the rear of the block as well.... both sides.. no matter how I try and swap out the gasket..

that is weird, do you have a gasket punch? I checked them blocks they both have holes on both sides, you are correct, just need to know which ones get blocked and which stay open..

the holes on the block should be blocked off I would think....would have to go out and look at my gasket sets......the water flow will come into the front of the block, then flow through block, up to the head and then flow forward.....then up through front of intake and out the t-stat to radiator.....if those large holes were open, the heads would overheat and crack

hope that make sense

Not all the holes in block or head castings are for cooling. These parts are sand cast and some of the holes are there simply to get the sand out of the casting after it solidifies. In some cases the holes are there to accommodate the casting process.
