Hi all...I just got a 1964 Dodge Polara 500 with a 440 Six Pack a couple weeks ago...and when it was on the lift this week, I notice a strange (To me) rear springs (see attached). Can anyone help identify these and the purpose for them (although I suspect they help transfer the torque to the ground...

Thanks, John

old fashioned helper spring. used to see them on station wagons back in the day.

Yep called add-a-leaf springs. Were for the big cars back in the day that pulled campers and trailers.

Those are facing the rear of the car, (correct?)... If so, they would do nothing for helping transfer torque...... As stated they are "Helper" springs once popular for adding a little extra payload to the existing suspension.
If your interested in helping the suspension in the future for launching, you'll want to control axle wrap (the twisting of your axle and winding of the leaf springs). This is done by controlling the FRONT segment of your leaf spring, unlike what's shown in your picture... Lot's of options regarding this type of suspension mod....

Thanks all, I knew I could count on you all...I thought I had a pair of Richard Petty's 64 NASCAR Secret springs :icon_cyclops_ani:
