Need some ideas fellow moparians

Hey guys, my mate has a VE valiant 4 door, similar to a dodge dart.
this is it.


it is a race car and street cruiser. he wants me to put a fuel cell in the boot made out of aluminium and be able to hook upto the stock filler point.
Can anyone help me with ideas please.

I had one idea to make a more low profile tank but wider and just sit over the top of the spare wheel holder, another idea I had was to cut a square section out of the floor including the spare wheel holder and then weld in some bracing between the chassis and mount the tank sort of like a drop tank, i.e half in trunk and half hanging down.

whats your thoughts, here is a picture of a similar trunk for an idea (not his, but similar)

Hey Benno, I have seen people use the aluminum fuel cells for a 65-68 Mustang they are truck mounted. It should fit where the spare tire opening is.You will have to cut out the spair tire sheet metal and make a support but fairly easy.Then you could just attach the fuel tube.Mustang parts are really affordable even the racing stuff.

Yeah you can do bigger ones that go half and half or ones that are flush with the trunk pan.

I've seen these tanks before (seam acts as the bolt flange as well), very good idea. If you are making one and he'd like to keep the floor intact I'd make it low profile and a drop the bottom to fit into the spare tire well but think the best route is as mentioned by Joe. Either way you go it should be really easy to get some pre bent exhaust tubing and make a filler tube using parts of the old one that dumps right into it, I'd try to make the tank so that you can even use the same seal too.
