Hi All,

Just joined, I’m from England.

Looking for some info on a couple of 440 engines.

Over here they are quite rare to come across, been offered a 1968 440.

But i cannot identify it, owner claims it came from a 68 charger.

The engine number is PT440P23736050, the P after the 440 never seen before, have been told if it had a S means Hi performance, but a P perhaps Police??

Front pad is D440 =68, date code looks right and casting number looks right.

but top of picture by drilling looks like a C, could be LC (low compression)was told a wrong way round C could indicate 6 pack block but no HP stamp on pad?

The owner is a few hundred miles away so not easy to pop over to look at, and is not a car man.

Was it only the RT 440 stamped HP and the standard charger not stamped HP,

Any info would be great

Many Thanks,

Welcome,

Is a 68 block, would be stamped HP if it was high performance block. I believe the pt= Trenton plant

Welcome to FBBO from Sunny SoCal. Do you have a Mopar to put the 440 in - or does that come later?

Welcome from Ohio, if it isn't cracked buy it.

Welcome to FBBO from New Zealand.
Just don't go putting that 440 into something stupid like a Morris Oxford or an Austin Princess.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the welcomes.

I Have a 68 RT charger, it was a one owner from Texas.

Came to England back in the late 80s.

Also I have a 1970 Olds 442(clone) convertible 455ci.

Sold my 65 GS Riviera a couple of years ago.

My Charger had an engine swap before it came here, its got a 1970 440 in it, non HP.

so was looking at this block as it’s a 68. correct year for my Charger.

Just trying to decide if it’s worth the swap.

The block up for grabs Engine casting number is right, the pads right but no HP, the C on the pad is a mystery.

The block engine number PT440P23736050 points to coming from the right plant PT Trenton but the extra P after the 440, I didn’t think it should have a letter there

It’s hard to decode you read one thing on the net then something contradicts it and your back at square one.

Few books I have don’t really break it down enough.

Thanks all

Welcome to the site! There are many here that should be able to decode the block but asking in the Welcome Wagon will not get the attention of many of them....especially with the thread title being 'New From England' (nothing against England....just no one knows that you have a question too). You'll get better results by starting a new thread in the
Engine, Trans & Driveline forum and title the thread accordingly. :)
