I was under the Satellite the other day and noticed a funny pattern on the bottom of the tank.

Upon closer inspection, gas was percolating from in between the halves, right in the center, under the filler neck, right through the weld!

This is the "Canadian" tank everyone recommends.

Anyone else had this happen?

I have noticed that is seems to have quite a bit of pressure release when I remove the cap.

I did meticulously reinstall the vent hoses when I replaced it.

I just installed a new SPECTRA tank and have 0 issues thus far. Sounds like a bad seam weld which is done elecrically between pinch rollers just like the old real steal outboard gas tank bottoms. I'd contact Spectra with the details and see what they will do for you as they state they water test every single tank they sell but likely not presurized.... which reminds me, if your tank is for 72+ they should not presurize as any possitive presure should be vented to the charcoal canister for purge into the intake.

PS I had my Spectra tank shipped from the US because it was cheaper than buying it here in Canada... one of my more serious pet peeves about my home country grrrrr lol

Does the canister get plugged?

I don't think I'm getting the MPG this low mile 318 2 barrel motor in a lighter (for it's body style) car ought to get (14.5).

They can but more likely the line. What year is the car?

Mine is a 74 but took the hump out of the trunk floor and went with a CR10B tank for a 73. That tank has 4 ports which have check balls/floats to prevent fuel from coming out into the small vent tank (I dont know what its actually called at the moment) which could get blocked, there is also a check valve in that small vent tank...

Sorry I cant explain it real well. I will post a pic I have of the setup tonight.

PS even with the presure in the tank I still dont think it should leak out the seam especially in a brand new tank, I would still be contacting Spectra about it.

It's a 73 with the 4 vent lines. I made sure to put them on the correct nipples.

I appreciate your help.

So you dont het a rush of pressure when you remove the cap?

Sorry I forgot last night, will try to find it tonight

I dont get anything like that when I open the tank, not anything I notice anyway.

That sucks or should I say blows. No the tank should not have pressure so need to resolve your venting issues. Even with the pressure the tank should not seep. How old is the tank and did you call Spectra?

Tank is less than a few months old. I did a post about installing it.

Any idea where to start looking for a plugged condition?

I have a HF vacuum pump, maybe I'll start testing the lines.

As stated, I've been chasing poor MPG, maybe this is it.

Well hell I cannot for the life of me find the resourse I had put somewhere grrrrr

In any case, here is my tank before putting it in. Each of the 4 vents also have a line on the inside of the tank going to each top corner on the inside of the tank. you can see the pinch dimples on the top of the tank near each corner. I beleive that there is a check valve in each of these to prevent fuel from coming out however apparently not all four will be blocked by the valves at any one time (yes I said apparently lol because thats what my documantation by ma mopar I cant find said) The white thing you see in the pic is called a separator and also has a check valve on the line that goes to the front of the car to the charcoal canister... THIS ONE WAS STICKING on the one I used, I also had to apoxy it because it was rusted out.

I hope this helps you. Sorry I cant find them other docs right now but I'll continue looking

Yep, that's what I got.

Maybe I'll beat on the vent tank, and see if that helps.

Perhaps a silly question, but shouldn't there be vacuum instead of pressure?

Is there a return?
