New parking brake cables (pre-install)

Curious what you guys do before installing new parking brake cables (prep), I think back to when I had scooters of one type or another. Any time I installed a new throttle or clutch cable I would make a paper cone, tape it to one end of the cable, hang the cable and then fill the paper cone with 30w oil. Also, would you put a coat of paint, under coating, or something else on the outer sleeves before install? This isn't a daily driver, dedicated 1/4 mile car, trailer'd to an occasional car show, but I want them to last as long as possible. Thanks.

These aren't stainless cables, just plain steel (maybe galvanized)?

They have a liner of some sort like nylon. So the cable core is insulated from the outer jacket. Plus if its on a fair weather car it will never see the road salts. My 69 came from Colorado and all 3 cables were still good.

Double check the routing is clear and clips are still good, that's about it.

If you don't need OEM appearance, electric wire heat shrink tubing could be applied.

If Inline sent you 3-hit auto flange locknut for adjustment, I'd find an alternative. JMO.
