I’ve been reading all the cowl rust horror stories on the site. Could I get some opinions on the condition of the cowl on my car? I realize actual inspection would be more appropriate, but I’m now 1800 miles away. lol
To me it looks fairly solid?

the problem area is the drivers side corner, (may have to remove the fender). Water gets trapped in there and rusts away. Look closely around the corners where the cowl panel meets the firewall/lower cowl section. Then look inside the car above the brake pedal brackets for rusting through. If the floor pan is rusted through, it could have been leaking here.
Went through this on my 64 convertible the last couple of years.

They could be over the counter magnums. The big three all used magnum wheels in the 60s and 70s in slightly different configurations, and center cap logos. The speed shop versions would likely have the magnum 500 logo. As a side note mopar only used 14 inch magnums.

The intent is to reinstall the engine and transmission before shipping it north. The engine is missing the driver’s side engine mount. Would the engine mount from a 318 be the same? If not, would anyone have one they’d be willing to sell?

Thanks in advance.

The 318 engine mount brackets are different than the big block ones. The B/RB brackets were all the same except for the Hemi.
The rubber insulators were the same on all of the V8s, again except the Hemi.

On my 64 Dodge Convertible, I had several areas under the top cowl piece that were badly rusted. If you car has the same issues you might be able to see them after you remove the dash and then by laying down on the floor and looking up. Any rot in the front of the front floor pans is a indication too of water [likely] coming in via the cowl.

I was hoping to ship the two cars north to Canada to start working on the Fury, but have been unable to find reasonable transport. In light of this, I’ve sadly decided to list the car and parts car for sale.
The engine and transmission has been reinstalled in the Fury for transport and the cars have been moved from the previous owner’s farm and into St. Louis.

Hello Al,

Sorry to hear that about the transport issues. Are you interested in parting a small item off of the Fury convertible? I have the 64 Polara convertible and am looking for the well liner drains. There are 2 of them and they look like this....

Thanks,

Steve

Bit of an exciting update. I sold the car in March 2020 (just before the COVID lockdown) to a father and son in Michigan. I received an email yesterday with some photos of the restored car. It turned out beautifully.
Len (the son) gave me permission to post the photos he sent. I'm sending him the link to this thread and hopefully he'll chime in with some of the restoration details.

Dang, those guys put a ton of work into that poor beast. Looks fantastic.

Definitely not their first restoration. Looks nice

(Loose the Interstate battery. Why do people do this?)
