New Rear Springs

So I changed out my rear springs with Mancini EHDuty Mopar approved springs. I was a little bummed about the outcome. In the Pic's I am showing you the overload springs that were on the car originally. (not original to the car I'm sure) You can also see the difference in the springs that were on the car. Right one is definitely unsprung. I decided to leave the overload springs off expecting the new springs to give me a good ride height. To me the rear now sits to low.

SOOOOOOOOO I was considering cutting the overload spring and only using the front section somewhat like a Caltrac. Do you think this would work? It may increase my ride height and stiffen it up a little more. I have not driven the car since the new components have been installed.

It does sit nice with the lower stance, but I would like to raise it up an inch or two. What's the word?

Not sure what car you're working with or it's use? If I get this correctly you took off springs that used an overload spring to raise the car, replaced that setup with Mancini XHD springs. The car sits a little lower than you'd like & would like to raise it? The Mancini XHD springs should be good for a normal HP street car. To raise it a little, put a longer shackle on the rear, 1" should raise the car a couple of inches and wouldn't screw up the spring "package".

Thanks for the reply 66Sat47. Yes I just don't like the way it is sitting. I could use the shackles but not my first choice. I have a pair of air shocks that I can raise it with if needed. Don't like using them though. It is a 67 Belve 11. I was hoping to somehow use those overload springs in some configuration. Thanks Larry

You could try getting the XHD springs re-arched. ESPO and Eaton sell springs with 1" and 2" over stock.

Like 65Hemi said, re-arching will surely works, I've done that several times. The spring shop will probably know how much if you tell them what you're shooting for & the car weight if you've got it. Shackles are just easy, quick & cheap & if you only go about 1" longer they still will have the "stock" appearance. Good luck!

I appreciate all the info. 65 Hemi, re-arching the springs will be more dollars. I would have thought the new springs would have done what I needed. Regardless, how about my initial question. I was thinking of cutting the overload springs and using the front portion under the new springs. Would it work like a caltrac? Do you think I could gain any height doing it this way? If anything I would think it would stiffen her up a little. I know using the complete overload would make it to high. Thanks for all the information guys.

if you know you are not going to use the overload springs then cut em and try it.why not,not using them 4 any thing else.dont get em hot when cutting them,will ruin the spring rate.

Thanks guys, If I cut them it will be with a cutoff wheel. I may do this next week. What the hell, I'm not going to use them for anything else. Today I have to dig out of 6 plus inches of snow. Better than a couple of feet or more!

I did it! I cut the overload springs and put them in. I only gained 1/2 inch in height. However it did firm up the rear suspension. So no harm no foul. It still seems to sit low to me, but I can live with it. Oh Ya. Pulled the cover off the car yesterday morning and I must have been putting the snow blower away the day before and damn, I put a big scratch in the right corner panel. My luck just sucks. Here are a couple of before and after pic's. I know it is hard to see the change but I did my measuring before and after. 1/2 inch whooo Hooo!!!!!!
