I'm looking to start collecting Mopars after working on Mustangs for pat 10 years. Need some advise. First I'm looking at a 1974 Roadrunner with 80,000 original miles, 2 owner car.Rust free California car. Sounds rare with factory sunroof and houndstooth cloth seating. Have original window sticker and build sheet. Sticker and vin match but build sheet last 6 numbers don't match car and sticker. The 1st group of numbers RM21G4G match as a roadrunner 1974. Owner says it is the build sheet he got with car but factory sometimes makes mistake with last 6. All the options seem to match up with sticker, build sheet and fender plate. Can this happen? Should this be a red flag to me?
Everything is original except they replaced the original 318 factory engine and auto trans with a 360 crate motor around 20,000 miles ago. Does this hurt the value or help? Thanks for any info I can get before I cut the check in the next few days. Going to look at car tomorrow but all photos look great.

How many of the last 6 don't match? They sometimes "made a mistake" by putting another car's build sheet in the wrong car. But 6 different numbers is another car. Maybe it could have been two on the line at the same time with the same options?

Oh, and welcome to FBBO!

Thanks for the advise... I will check tomorrow. Owner says yes everything matches Vin on original sticker, windshield and radiator support. Only place is build sheet and yet everything on build sheet is correct. All options there including color and interior. Does the new replacement engine from 318 to 360 crate motor hurt? Any advise?

Thanks for reply... the window sticker and car vin plate list 118236 but broadcast sheet shows 125940. I'll check all vin stamps tomorrow ie. window, cowl plate and radiator support. If they all match the window sticker I assume it's the right car. Strange how the broadcast sheet though has every single option on this car correct except last 6. Does the 318 switch to new 360 crate engine hurt value? Any of your knowledge is appreciated. Thanks

The '74 Roadrunner is not as desired as the '71/'72 and aren't as highly sought after. They are starting to gain a following however due to the limited availability of the earlier models. I personally don't mind them at all. As for the 318 vs 360, it really won't have that big of an effect in my opinion. That is due to the fact that it wasn't a big block car to start out so you have an actual improvement over the 318. Would the 318 be cooler, maybe, as you could say it was original. Maybe it is still in his backyard?

Welcome aboard and thanks for joining the forum!

Yummy...a 74 Roadrunner!
"How sweet!"

Yup, X2 with our esteemed forum member gdrill, Broadcast sheets from 1 car have been installed erroneously in other cars...

Welcome to the site! Regarding the motor, not really a big deal, good motor to build up a bit. For the build sheet, that sounds weird, have you checked under the rear seat to see if there is a sheet there? Without knowing what the purchase price is, hard to say if its a good deal or not. Rust free is a good thing no matter what, just make sure you don't over pay because its not original motor and trans.
