VIN Swap 66 Coronet?

Is the SO number not on the core support?

That should match the fender tag, right?

Yes
And yes

So number is lower left side of tag
as example
Mine is 02063

405 is the SBD April 5th

So we're back to-

Do the obvious options on the car (and tag if present) match the IBM card?

...and does the SO on the core match the tag (if present).

The rear body code is on the rear crossmember, usually between the two bumper brackets. If it is rusty in that area you might not be able to see it. If you can't find it, then the rad support is all you have. If it looks factory original then I would have to say, VIN swap.

My 67 Satellite that I'm currently restoring, the SO# is on the core support and the rear cross member just to the left of the left rear bumper bracket. They should match the order # on the IBM card.

I understand on a 66 they may even be on the rear cross member under the rear bumper reinforcement mounts.
I will get out to the garage tomorrow and look

Hi YY1
In post #1, I said fender tag is missing. To expand, I asked the previous owner. He said he asked the person who sold the car to him 8 years ago. Whereabouts of the fender tag is unknown.

You are correct, on a 1966 B-body the shipping order number should match the fender tag and core support. From the IBM card, shipping order number for my VIN is 08082. Shipping order number on my core support is 09046, see also post #1.

On the IBM card, the punch outs correspond to the numbers on the side of the card. I need to find out what those numbers mean.

The VIN is for a 318 car. K-frame is 1968, so I can't match that to the VIN. Body is repainted black, with a poor quality paint job, does not match saddle bronze on IBM card. Interior is tan which matches IBM card.

Big problem: plant on core support is #1. Plant on VIN is #7.

Lose the build card, the vin screws, rivet it on correctly and go back to being happy with what you purchased.
I bought the car from Georgia.
I'll admit, it's probably some problem from settling an estate. So it's probably an estate car that someone used weak Georgia registration without title laws to make legal.
But what if it's stolen? VIN swaps on stolen cars do happen.
Still, I'm going to look for the rear body stamp and then decide what to do.
