NEW WHEEL ADVICE PLEASE

HEY GUYS.

I just got a 73 Dodge Charger and looking to upgrade the wheels. Think I want the American Racing VN501 wheels. Any advice on what size to get? 15 or 17 inch. And what width? Or any advice on a different rim to get? I received the car from my father in law and am a bit of a newb. Any advice is appreciated!!!

Your choice of wheels will revolve around so many things....stance, whether you want to do disc brakes (providing you don't have them) , how you want to drive...track vs street, budget, availability of rubber for that rim size and most important..your personal taste

Here is our 1973 Charger with a “Gambler” wheel. It has 235/60/15’s on the front and 275/60/15’s on the rear. There are some other wheels I like too that I think would look good on it but these aren’t broken so I’m gonna keep them for now. I think American Racing Torque Thrust D’s would look good or a set of Weld Pro Stars. There is a thread in the first page or two that shows guys cars and there are a lot of different wheeels in that thread that’s where I would start looking.

Another thing to consider is tire budget. 15 inch tires in traditional 50-65 series muscle era dimensions are becoming increasingly rare and expensive. 17and 18 inch tires are more readily available and affordable overall. Some purist scoff at large diameter wheels on our cars but then again I scoff at putting 70 series tires on any passenger car. 70 series and up are for trucks in my opinion and have no business on a car.

Cooper Cobras for the wheels on my car are $114 each for the fronts, $122 each for the rears. Seems pretty cheap to me and they are available at both Amazon and Summit, I’m sure they are available locally too.

Thanks for the advice... Here is a little more info. The front have disc brakes and the rear are drums. I will just be driving it to car cruise-ins // Sunday drives, so not very often. Definitively not a track car, just something to mess around with. Very low key. Do you think 17 inch rims will look too big? Just looking for advice on 15 vs 17 inch rims and the width as well.

205/70R15 on the front. I guess it could be classified as a truck...

17's will look fine as that year Charger has the wheel wells large enough to handle them.

Yes, I am leaning towards 15s. Feel like that's more of a classic look. Any advice on width? I don't want to stagger them so will have the front and back the same. I was thinking 15x8?

On the right car 17s & 18's look alright,But just like the 15s
